Sorry to change track on you--I know, again!!--but I hope you'll be as excited to see Mona and Colby back as I am! If you like this snippet don't forget to get your copy of "Mona's Second Chance" available TODAY at Blushing Books!
Mona and Colby have been divorced over a year now, and try as she might, she can't keep from dreaming about a life with him still in it. Since she knows that will never happen, Mona tries to move on.
Fate--or stupid mistakes on her part--bring them back together. Mona is mystified and shocked by Colby's threat to spank her, yet strangely excited. Could this be the second chance she was looking for?
To set the stage for this snippet, Mona has once again called Colby to come to her rescue. She has neglected to get gas after he gave her some last time--when will she learn?
"Where are we going?” My voice was very subdued and meek. Face to face with his wrath, I no longer felt brave enough to put on continue using the smart ass tone I’d had when I was on the phone with him.
“To get your gas. Remember?”
“I, um, you didn’t bring it with you?”
“What, am I supposed to pay for your gas now?”
“I wasn’t saying that, I just—”
“Come on, Mona. I don’t have time for this.” He was tapping his foot, and I could tell he was getting impatient.
The thing was, I was not sure I wanted to get in a car alone with him. He didn’t know that I still had feelings for him--how could I have feelings for him even now, after he had been so snappish with me, when he was clearly about to lose it on me? I didn’t know how I could, but it didn’t change the fact that I did. Just the sight of him set my heart to fluttering, and it
wasn’t something I wanted him to know. I didn’t want him to laugh at me, or God
forbid, pity me.
“You know, you really didn’t have to come all this way.”
“OK, you know what? If you want to stay here, stranded, go right ahead. I’m not going to try to tell you what to do.”
You never listened anyway. I heard the meaning underneath the words, even though, to his
credit, he didn’t say them.
I apologize for going over this week! Hope you enjoyed it, though, and I hope you get a chance to read more about Mona and Colby! Let me know what you think!
